RESTORATION
Restored to God, family and community
The result of successful Christ-centered recovery is a life restored. True and lasting restoration comes when a person is reconciled to his God and community. It is to understand what God has called you to be and to live life confidently without self-medicating. Real restoration is to accept the past and to persevere for a God favored future.
Restoration means not only spiritual wholeness but continued spiritual growth.
Simply stated, Rescue + Recovery = Restoration
Research reveals that a homeless person may experience up to three episodes of homelessness. The key to successfully ending this cycle is affordable housing, suitable employment, and personal engagement. KARM focuses on each of these, and we have seen success, but not enough. We must do more to prevent people from falling back into homelessness.
Too many, who have benefitted from the caring environment within KARM find the challenges of life away from KARM overwhelming. With ongoing and individualized aftercare we can we can prevent relapses. This is why we must expand our aftercare effort.
For most, aftercare begins during the recovery stage with the matching of a mentor. This Christ centered, supportive relationship continues years into restoration, by providing continued support and accountability. Literally hundreds of trained, volunteer mentors are needed requiring recruitment, careful selection, concentrated training and monitoring. Using an adapted Stephen's Ministry model for Christian care-giving, mentors provide continuous and loving accountability in a distinctively Christian way.
In addition to mentoring, aftercare is continued individualized support through counseling, support groups, job assistance or emergency financial assistance. KARM's aftercare ministries are to a recovering homeless addict what the church is to a new convert. It is pure discipleship, where the tools and lessons learned in recovery are applied to real life that is laden with challenges and disappointments.
Aftercare is the safe forum for men and women to address their fears and struggles while continuing to live a sober life. Here they are able to unload their burdens and receive valuable feedback and support. They learn the ongoing lessons of developing workable solutions to life.s crisis without returning their addictions.
Enhanced restoration ministries are the next frontier challenging KARM and the only way to assure that more lives are restored in Jesus' name.
